Your first AI companion conversation

By Attune · Updated

A good first conversation can start with something small: a detail in his profile, a question about his interests, or a moment from your day. You do not need to invent an elaborate backstory to begin.

Choose a character you are curious about

Start in Discover and open a character’s profile. Look beyond the portrait: his introduction and interests give you something specific to respond to. You can like a character or skip and keep exploring.

Attune’s characters are fictional AI personas. You are exploring an interactive story, not being matched with another human. Different characters can have different styles, and liking someone does not promise a particular response.

Make the first message easy to answer

Try one detail and one question: ‘You mentioned late-night walks. Where would you go on a rainy evening?’ Or start with your own day: ‘I finally finished a difficult project. What would you do to celebrate?’ These are example prompts, not messages sent by the product.

If you have a tone in mind, say so plainly: ‘Let’s keep this light today’ or ‘I would rather talk about music.’ A short, concrete request gives the conversation a clearer direction than trying to guess the right phrase.

Continue from what is actually said

Respond to one part of his reply, ask a follow-up, or change the subject when you want to. AI replies can be inconsistent or misunderstand details; correct a mistake directly instead of treating every generated statement as a fact.

If a reply fails, check the message status before trying again. A service interruption is not a character’s relationship decision. You can leave and return through Messages; there is no need to keep a conversation going when you want a break.
